Shumway Lake.
I didn't like it.
It was veeeeeeery windy that day, the waves were big, and that lake is UHHHHgLY. I like waves, and wind, but on a ugly lake right by the highway it is less than ideal for a fun kayak. It's also a little out of the way, about 15 mins out of Kamloops on the old Merritt highway. And there is no sign. Because there are many big ponds ahem I mean tiny gross looking lakes, on the way to Merritt, we didn't know which one was Shumway. So we drove in and parked at the rowing club grounds, and there aas a sign for Shumway Lake...and this is where the only highlight of that lake comes in. We saw rowers rowing! Both one-man boats and a many-manned boat. It was intense. Especially with the French-accented coach yelling at this one rower.
"Row harder, you eembeeceel. Row, ROW, you imcompetent foo!"
I did embelish a bit, there was no name calling....but add on the french accent an it's still a good show!

Jacko Lake.

A beautiful little lake about 10 mins. up the Lac le Jeune road in Kamloops.  We like this one because it's close to Kamloops,  and small, which means if it's windy we can still go out without putting too  much work into the whole paddling-thru-the-rolling-waves thing. Also, we were told by several fisher-people that it is one of the best lakes for fishing in so next time we'd like to bring our rods and try our luck!

Lac du Bois

Lac du Bois. A very ducky (duckish?), scummy, too-warm-to-be-refreshing lake nestled in the Lac du Bois grasslands above Bachelor Heights in Kamloops. We didn't come to this remarkable body of water just to kayak though. We came to camp out with a group of friends, and brought our kayaks because we knew there was a lake. Of some sort. I personally would refer to it as more of a giant pond than a lake, but a body of water is a body of water and fair game for kayaking. And besides the actual less than appealing lake, the shoreline bordered by trees and rolling cattle-ranged hills was beautiful. So that made up for the Pond. Oh and the turtles were cool too.
